$9,000 Mistake in Medical Bill
Posted on May 4, 2007 by Michelle Pastor
A father found that a Denver hospital over-charged for his son’s hospital stay by $9,000. When he examined the bill he found huge over-charges mostly related to medications. Not many people scrutinize their hospital bills. They think the insurance companies are somehow checking the bills, but they usually aren’t.
The hospital adjusted the bill, but had the father not questioned the charges he would have over paid and never have known.
Having just had surgery myself, and coincidentally in Denver, when I read this article I decided to check into my bills thoroughly. I asked for a break-out of the bill, but the rep said that ambulatory or surgery centers give set pricing per type of surgery no matter how involved it is. Good to know.
