Beware of Scams with Craigslist
Posted on Jun 1, 2007 by Michelle Pastor
Craigslist.com is a website that lets sellers post ads for free.
A man selling a truck on Craigslist was almost bilked by a variation of the Nigerian 419 scam that I’ve blogged about previously. A buyer named “Jimmy Davis” wanted to buy his truck.
McKamy said he sold the truck locally, but "Jimmy Davis" was insistent. McKamy said he got an envelope with a $10,000 check via United Parcel Service. McKamy said he sent Davis an e-mail, telling him he'd sold the truck and he was sending the check back.
McKamy said Davis had another plan.
"He wanted me to wire the money to Billings, Mont.," McKamy said.
The seller realized that it was an attempt to get his money and didn’t fall for it, but the article serves as a good reminder to be careful when selling items on Craigslist or ebay.
