Credit Freeze Law for Mississippi

Posted on Jul 5, 2007 by Tom Fragala

Mississippi residents, as of July 1 2007, can avail themselves of a credit freeze. According to Insurance Journal:

The law says a consumer whose personal information has been illegally used by others must file a police report, and then may send a copy of that report to a consumer reporting agency to put a freeze on a file. The agency may charge up to $10 to carry out the request.

For instructions on placing a freeze in MS, see this from Consumers Union [pdf].

You may also want to read a blog post I wrote last year on credit freezes. I also touch on the usually forgotten exceptions that may apply and how freezes compare to fraud alerts. Does anyone know if the exclusions to the freeze are different state by state or do they follow a standard template? If you know, post a comment please.
