PayPal Offers Free Equifax Credit Monitoring: Still Not Worth It

Posted on Feb 15, 2007 by Tom Fragala

PayPal (Nasdaq:EBAY) is now offering all its members free Equifax Credit Alerts. Wow, that sounds great doesn't it? This is one of those things that is “better than nothing” right? No. Don’t waste your time. This service only monitors your credit file at one of the three nationwide credit reporting companies, so it’s nearly useless. And credit monitoring, which so many people rave about, is pretty bad already (I’ll blog about that someday soon). But monitoring just ONE credit bureau is not even worth the time, in my opinion. Not when you have a right to get complete credit reports (far better than simple monitoring) from each agency once a year. Just sign up for our free prevention service and you have far better protection. And I bet Equifax is going to bombard you with marketing, too.
