eBay Buyers Beware - Even The Experienced Ones

Posted on Apr 11, 2007 by Michelle Pastor

I’m a big fan of Clark Howard – a consumer advocate with a nationally syndicated radio show.  He’s alerting eBay buyers to a new scam that is successfully duping even experienced buyers.

In his March newsletter, he explains how it’s done.

Scammers build up their seller ratings by selling expensive items legitimately with good customer service.  Once their seller rating is high, they sell more expensive items such as cameras and computers.  That’s when the scam begins – the seller takes the money but doesn’t send the product.

Be aware and don’t let your guard down just because of a seller’s good rating.

Another reason to sometimes be careful of a seller's ratings is the account takeover phenomenon.

eBAY and PayPal are the two most phished brands out there and criminal intent behind this activity is to get account details.

Quite simply, a crook gets ahold of a legitimate sellers account - takes it over - and does all kinds of dirty deeds using the legitimate seller's information.
