Financial Aid and Scholarship Scams
Posted on Mar 26, 2007 by Michelle Pastor
I've worked with a number of clients that have paid companies to search for college scholarships and fill out financial aid forms on their behalf, but I’ve never heard anything positive about the companies they’ve paid to help them.
There’s a lot of pressure on parents to wade through the maze of financial aid and scholarship information so a lot of parents will enlist the help of a company that offers to do the work for them. Unfortunately, there are plenty of scams related to scholarship and financial aid searches. Some companies drop the ball completely – after they receive the initial payment from parents and others require that the parents do a great deal of work, leaving the parents unsure of what they are paying for.
Michelle Singletary writes “The Color of Money” column for the Washington Post and is pretty informative about all different money management issues. This particular column gives red flags to watch for when considering using a third party to help with scholarship and financial aid searches.

Thank you so much for this link and information. I'm a single mother and planning to return to college this fall but need all the finacial aid I can get - this will certainly help me to save rather than waste my hard earned money.
