Good Should Come From This Victim's Experience
Posted on Apr 16, 2007 by Michelle Pastor
There is an article on Myrtle Beach online that serves as a good reminder of just how much the victim goes through when an identity has been stolen. The thief opened credit card accounts in the victim’s name and paid the credit card bills with checks from the victim’s checking accounts. As is common, the identity thief was a long-time and very trusted employee of the victims’. The crime went on for a while because when the thief opened the credit card accounts online with no signature or way to verify the identity and then gave her own address rather than the victims’, so the victim never saw a bill and didn’t suspect a thing.
Luckily, something good will likely come from this particular case. The victims’ husband happens to be a Senator and because of this nasty experience he has become a strong supporter of ID theft legislation. He’s currently refining a bill that can help in the fight against identity theft. It’s good to have one more supporter of ID theft legislation that knows first-hand its effects.
