How ATM Skimming Scams Work (Video)
Posted on Feb 17, 2007 by Tom Fragala
This video (from the UK) shows how an ATM skimming scheme can steal your ATM card number and PIN.
The moral is watch out for shady looking ATM machines and put your hand and body over the keypad while you type your PIN.
Updated with the URL to the video itself above. It appears that the embedded video player does not always work.

You know the thing I have to add to this is that it is not just 'shady' looking machines but ANY machine that is in a high volume area with low volume security.
I have had my card skimmed once where money was taken- that was at the counter at a Chevron in North Vancouver- where I used to live.
And my card was flagged for 2 mroe potential skims:
First was a Scotia Bank Terminal inside a bank.
Second was at a Movie Theatre Terminal- again inside the building.
Where can we be safe with these magical cards the banks have, in their own way, forced on us?
The bigger question I have is what is YOUR bank doing to fix this- and why are we being stung with extra charges for crappy or defective machines?
I love a paperless society as much as the next guy but... apparantly we are not ready.
I suggest buying a nice big sock and a tin box and dig a nice hole in your back yard- and just use banks for RRSPs
