Apartment complex break-in could lead to identity theft

Posted on Jan 21, 2006 by Tom Fragala

When someone asks me why can't ID theft be easily prevented, I tell them to think of every rental or mortgage application they've ever filled out. Where is that data? Is it in a file cabinet that is easily accessed? That simple application holds the key to unlocking your indentity.

Earlier this week someone broke into the rental office of an apartment complex and stole a computer that contained everything from social security numbers to driver's license information It happened at the Indian Ridge Apartments at Fort Apache and Twain in the southwest part of town. It was a wake-up call that many residents, including Phillip Morlowe, weren't expecting.
