Arizona Identity Theft Law Aims to Stop Employment Fraud

Posted on Sep 7, 2007 by Tom Fragala

At this time, according to state law, it's a felony if a person uses false identification leading to economic loss of $3,000 or more.
On September 19, the law will change, making it a class three felony for anyone using false identification to obtain employment.
Pima County Attorney, Barbara LaWall, says her office will aggressively prosecute this new identity theft law. "This is a class three felony, it's a serious felony, and it carries a significant penalty. There's a potential of 2½ to 7 years in prison."

More from KVOA News 4.

Some worry Arizona law will lead to more stolen real identities [being stolen] because in the past many fake employment documents (Social Security cards, green cards, etc) used fake numbers.

Great article on identity theft and how serious it can be for everyone and how the Arizona authorities have recognized this and stepped up their penalties for this.

Here's a great article on thieves that steal laptop computers, why they do it (datat mining, quick cash on Ebay, etc...), how they do it and how to best protect yourself and your laptop. This is a absolute must read for everyone:
