Identity theft has hit 10% of people in UK
Posted on Aug 9, 2006 by Tom Fragala
According to a survey by NPower, a UK power company, almost one out of 10 people in the United Kingdon have been a victim of identity theft. Does that sound high? Well, did they ask if a person has been a victim at any point in their life or in the last year? The title of the Scotsman story I link to below says “one in ten Birtons suffers ID theft.” That implies annually, because that is the terms we usually think in. However, I don’t believe that’s what they survey asked. The Scotsman.com has more.
Nine per cent of those interviewed for the study believed they had been a victim of ID theft - the equivalent of six million people. Experts said the number of fraudulent incidents was far higher than reported.
