Identity theft makes sheriff into teacher
Posted on Feb 20, 2006 by Tom Fragala
The Maine Sentinel newspaper has a story about a sheriff that got hit by a phishing scam…
Waldo County Sheriff Scott Story has more sympathy for victims of identity theft these days since he was scammed or, more accurately, "phished."
"I buy materials for fly-tying on eBay," he said, "and I had just changed credit cards."
When he got an e-mail purportedly from eBay checking on those changes, he responded with all the information requested.
But a few hours later, he checked and found that no one from the legitimate site had contacted him.
