Innovis - A Free Report Is Yours For The Asking
Posted on Jun 7, 2007 by Michelle Pastor
Innovis data solutions is relatively unknown to consumers – it is similar to the three credit reporting agencies, Equifax, Experian and TransUnion.
Innovis supplies credit grantors with information on all of us "to assist in marketing, verification, authentication and fraud prevention." Innovis says it is "not currently involved in providing services that can result in the denial of applications for credit, insurance or employment." And that’s what sets it apart from the other three credit reporting agencies in the eyes of the FTC. Because Innovis is different from the other 3, they aren’t required to supply consumers with a free credit report every 12 months.
According to an article on nydailynews.com
While information in the company's file may not directly affect a credit application, it could still be detrimental. Negative information in an Innovis credit file can prevent consumers from receiving good offers from potential creditors - and potentially make them targets for predatory ones.
Although it’s rare to hear of Innovis, it’s important to make sure that the data they have about you is correct. To check your report, call Innovis at 800–540–2505. Save yourself some aggravation and don’t listen to the long drawn-out instructions on how to get a credit report, instead press the option that connects you with a customer service rep. Ask the rep for your free credit report.
The article cited above states that consumers have to pay for the report from Innovis, but with a little more digging I figured out how to get a free report.
Innovis’ voice recorded message is very confusing and misleading, but I ended up up talking to a live person and found that residents in every state can get one free credit report from Innovis per 12 months. Although Innovis is not required to supply a free credit report every 12 months like the other 3 credit reporting agencies, they will provide it for free, however, but only if you know to ask.
