Senator Wayne Allard's Fight Against SSN Theft

Posted on Mar 4, 2007 by Michelle Pastor

Senator Wayne Allard (R-Colorado) gets it! He knows that a number of illegal aliens can use the same social security number to get a job and then never pay the income taxes which leaves the victim and eventually the country with the bill.  Senator Allard also knows that the Social Security Administration (SSA) holds the database of this information and is the one agency that can detect multiple uses of the same social security number. If only the SSA would notify the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) of any duplications of Social Security numbers or any other suspicious activity, it would help the DHS enforce immigration laws and crack down on the identity theft related to it.

That’s why he’s proposed legislation to allow the SSA to notify the DHS when something suspicious is going on.  Right now, the only agency the SSA can divulge information to is the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), so Senator Allard’s proposal is a step in the right direction.  Read the news story from Colorado’s 9news.

Excerpt from 9news:

Since many suspected illegal immigrants try to secure fake social security cards or use existing ones, Allard says it would give DHS another tool to enforce immigration laws if the Social Security Administration could relay what it knows.

Read more about why illegal aliens use social security numbers fraudulently and how they do it in an earlier blog post.

I thought government agencies were supposed to share sensitive information post 9-11.

Guess this means that they ARE NOT!
