Mystery Shopping Meets the Nigerian Scam

Posted on Apr 13, 2007 by Michelle Pastor

Just when I thought I had seen everything, it got worse! I've blogged on mystery shopping fraud and also nigerian money scams, but now to make matters worse, the two have combined to really take advantage of consumers!

According to an article on SYS-CON media's website, a fraudulent mystery shopping company is now asking their 'shoppers' to test out a money wire service. The shoppers receive a large check and are instructed to cash the check at their local bank, keep several hundred dollars for their troubles and wire the rest to a company in Canada. The cashier's check bounces and the shopper is responsible for the funds he took from the bank.

Beware of any opportunities to make money quickly, especially if it involves cashing a check.
