Scam Targets Visa and MasterCard Customers

Posted on Jun 4, 2007 by Michelle Pastor

According to this article, scammers pose as if they are from the fraud department of Visa or MasterCard and rattle off a purchase on the credit card that the cardholder didn’t make.

The caller promises to reimburse the cardholder once a 1-800 number is called and a six-digit pass code is given on the back of the person's card. The cardholder is asked to read the last three numbers back to the caller, who then copies them down illegally.
