Getting the run around from your bank on fraud? Use certified mail.

Posted on Mar 3, 2008 by Tom Fragala

green certified mail slipThere is a post on the Consumerist blog about a person that is having trouble getting a credit posted for losses from account fraud. Essentially, the person says the bank is messing around claiming paperwork on the fraud wasn't received, and the person goes on about the incredible efforts they went through to get the bank to respond and fix the problems. At the end of the post, Consumerist rather feebly suggests that maybe the individual should send correspondence registered mail. Of course, she should use certified mail.

She would have saved a lot of energy and time by sending send all correspondance certified mail, return receipt requested in the first place. Then you could be virtually assured the bank (or who whoever is processing fraud claims for them) can't pretend they didn't receive it. You don't really get the benefit of the laws on your side unless you can prove you mailed something. Sorry that's the way the system works.
